Trainer Profile - Don Whiting
Do you or one of your employees require a Bobcat ticket? What about a Front End Loader or Dozer Ticket? If so, Don Whiting could be the person you're looking for! Don has been working for the CITC Inc since 1998 and his policy of "never treating anyone like an idiot" has led to him becoming one of our most popular and respected trainers.
Don's outgoing and friendly nature make him ideal for working with younger clients in need of a helping hand, while his no nonsense approach and wide industry experience will ensure that clients with a longer history in the workforce will know that they are in safe and reliable hands.
Don started his working life driving trucks in the far north of SA before moving through a variety of jobs across the country within the automotive and allied industries, then starting a 22 year career with Australian National Railways.
While working for the railways, Don began to train and supervise new and redeployed employees. This led to Australian National enroling him in a 'Train the Trainer' course in 1993. Since then Don has continued to enhance his skills, both as a trainer/assessor and to develop his business, Don Whiting Training Services.
Don is a fully accredited Workplace Assessor and provides CITC Inc clients with outstanding service in Front End Loader, Bulldozer, Backhoe, Excavator and Skid Steer assessments among others.

Regional Training
The CITC Inc may be based in Adelaide, but we understand that not every business is! With this in mind, CITC trainers are able to come to your worksite to conduct training across SA, and even interstate.
Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions regarding Regional Training:
Which areas are 'Regional'?
The CITC's regional zone starts at the Victor Harbour, Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn and the Kapunda/Barossa Valley Areas (inclusive) and extends outwards from these points. Any venue that is within these areas, or further afield from Adelaide is classed as 'Regional'.
Is there a minimum number of people required to hold a course?
As with all of our company (private) courses there are set minimum and maximum numbers of participants required for us to conduct the course. To find out the numbers of participants that are required for each course, please check each course's individual outline, listed here, alternatively you could call our office.
Will it cost any extra?
There are additional costs that a company or individual will incur for training outside of the metropolitan area. These will mainly consist of travel costs (based on the distance from Adelaide) and acommodation costs (when overnight stays are required). However, these expenses could end up lower than the cost of sending your employee/s to Adelaide for training once travel and accommodation is taken into account (not to mention any financial loss that may be incurred due to downtime).
CITB Subsidies may apply for accommodation and travel for some companies and courses. Please contact CITC Inc for details.
Are there any public courses that are run regionally?
Over the last few years CITC has conducted public courses in Greencard II, Forklift, Asbestos Training and Elevated Work Platform in the South East of SA as public courses (courses that individuals may attend, as opposed to company group bookings). These have proved to be enormously popular and we will endeavour to hold them again this year. Please email us at: info@citc.com.au if you would like to register your interest.
Which courses are the most popular for regional training?
Aside from those listed above, CITC regularly conducts Dogging, Crane, Plant Assessment, Hoist, Confined Space and Truck training in regional SA.
For a full list of terms and conditions that are attached to particpating in CITC courses outside of the metropolitan area, as well as a rundown of the costs involved, please email: info@citc.com.au or call (08) 8443 6633.
If you email us, please try to include as much information as possible (company name, venue, participant numbers, course/s required etc).

How do I become a registered Workplace Assessor?
This question is often asked by people who work in 'prescribed occupations' or with load shifting equipment to a national certification standard. A registered Workplace Assessor is recognised by the government as being allowed to test the abilities of an individual in one or more areas to enable them to obtain a ticket or licence.
People with extensive experience in particular areas or with specific machines may wish to gain this qualification to improve their job prospects or to enhance their own business.
To apply to become a registered Workplace Assessor you will need to have achieved Workplace Assessor competency standards from the Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training.
If you would like to apply, call Workplace Services on 08 8303 0400 and ask to speak to the construction division, then ask them to send you an 'Assessor's Information Kit'.
This information package will give you all the relevant information needed to enable you to apply to become a registered Workplace Assessor including:
What evidence you will need to supply to support your application, such as your qualifications, training, work history etc.
Your completed 'Declaration of Operating Experience' forms (included in the kit)
Copies of letters of reference from past and/or present employers giving full details of your operating/supervising/training experience including how many years of experience you have in the appropriate field.
You will need to attend an information session at Workplace Services.
Undergo a written test on your knowledge of the assessment processes and the relevant OHS&W regulations.
This is only a basic guide to becoming a Workplace Assessor, for more information either contact Workplace Services by calling (08) 8303 0400 (ask for the construction branch) or visit the Workplace Services website.
Alternatively you can email us at: info@citc.com.au to recieve our factsheet, please put 'Workplace Assessor Factsheet' in the subject heading.
