UK Delegation
On March 10 CITC Inc had the honour of hosting a delegation from the UK's Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) including their Director of Inspections, Nicky Perry and the Chair of their Board, Richard Hanover. The ALI's role is to inspect and report on the quality of education and training for adults and young people funded by the British Government. They can also be commissioned to inspect private training provision in the UK and overseas.

The group formed part of a study tour, organised by TAFE NSW. They spent 14 days travelling across Australia visiting public and private adult learning facilities. During their 2 day Adelaide visit they were accompanied by Australian Council for Private Education and Training's (ACPET) SA Executive Officer Darren Wise.
Their tour of CITC included visits to our Netley and DMI Marleston training facilities, 2 short presentations followed by question and answer sessions with two of our trainers and an informal lunch, before speeding to the airport.
Two of our trainers, Sasha Reinbrecht and John Rutter, delivered highly entertaining and informative presentations that reinforced the delegate's impression of CITC as a training provider that is dedicated to providing trainers with wide industry experience, an approachable attitude and excellent communications skills.
The delegates commented on the quality of the facilities and one even noted that it was one of the only centres they had visited that had students who were being trained at the time they visited!
Special thanks must go to; Darren at ACPET and Jacqui Verrall, CITC Inc's Compliance Officer for organising the visit, the students in John's Forklift and Sasha's Dogging classes for allowing the delegation to take some of their training time, and especially to Sasha Reinbrecht and John Rutter for providing such engaging sessions for our delegates.

Trainer Profile - John Rutter
'Excellent trainer', 'John was very helpful, a good teacher', 'enjoyed it heaps'. 'Very clear and understanding - cheers',
Those of us who know John Rutter are not at all surprised to read these comments on the evaluation forms that his students fill out. John's efforts to maintain the quality of his courses while keeping the participants entertained has made him a favourite with both individual students and their employers.
After many years working as a mechanic and in maintenance departments in industries as diverse as plant equipment hire and civil aviation, John made the move into training. He has been training with the CITC Inc since 2001 in addition to running his own business - Industrial Applied Training.
If you (or any of your employees) have done a Forklift, Elevated Work Platform, Scissorlift or Workzone Traffic Management course, then chances are you will understand why he is one of our most requested trainers. He has been frequently asked back to companies as varied as the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide City Council and the RAAF Base at Edinburgh.
For a full schedule of public courses that John will be facilitating, please look at the Forklift, Elevated Work Platform, Scissorlift and Workzone Traffic Management courses here.
If you would like to enquire about John running a private company course either on your site or at one of our training facilities, please contact our Office Manager Chris Chevalier on 8443 6633 or email chris@citc.com.au. Please note that private courses do require minimum numbers, these vary from course to course.

The Long and the Short of: Qualifications
Here is a list of questions (in no particular order) that we are most frequently asked about qualifications and both a short and a long answer.
Q: Can I use my Greencard (or Greencard II) outside of South Australia?
The Short: No.
The Long: The Greencard and Greencard II are based on South Australian law and so are not valid outside of the state. All other states conduct a similar course but it is given a different name, for example in Victoria it is known as the Redcard.
Q: How long does my Greencard last?
The Short: 2 or 3 years.
The Long: If you did you course before December 2003 your card will be valid for 2 years. If you did your course after December 2003 it is valid for 3 years. Your card's expiry date can be found on the back.
Q: Do I legally require a Greencard?
The Short: No.
The Long: There is no legal requirement to hold a Greencard if you go onto construction sites in South Australia. However there are several points that need to be taken into consideration regarding the legality of the Greencard:
Any site manager or employer is within their rights to deny someone without a Greencard access to their site.
If you do not have a Greencard you must attend an OH&S Induction on each new site you go on.
Even if you have a valid Greencard you may be required to attend an induction on site specific hazards such as the presence of asbestos or other chemical hazards.
Q: Is my trainer issued ticket legally valid?
The Short: Probably.
The Long: Some tickets are issued by the trainer/assessor and are legally valid. These tickets include Forklift, Skid Steer, Excavator and some other plant equipment. If you are not sure about you assessor issued ticket, please contact Workplace Services (contact details below).
Q: Is my CITC Certificate of Attainment the same as my ticket?
The Short: No.
The Long: The Certificate of Attainment is issued when the participant has successfully completed the course. This does not necessarily mean that a participant has passed their assessment. To pass your assessment you must show that you: are competent in the relevant tasks, can provide written proof of on site practical training and you are able to pass any theory examinations relevant to the course.
Q: I've passed my assessment and I have my assessment slip, what now?
The Short: Drop it into Workplace Services.
The Long: Dogging, Rigging, Scaffolding, Elevated Work Platform and the Crane tickets (among others) are all issued through Workplace Services. Once an assessor has signed you off as competent in one of these areas you need to get to get your slip to Workplace Services within 60 days to be issued with your ticket.
Please be aware that if you have not presented your slip after the 60 days to Workplace Services, you must be re-assessed, as per their regulations.
Q: How can I contact Workplace Services?
The Short: See below.
The Long: Their address is 1 Richmond Road, Keswick (near the Keswick Train Station). They can be called on 8303 0400 (ask to be put through to their construction branch). Their website is www.eric.sa.gov.au.
That's the long and the short on our most frequently asked questions. If there is anything else (within reason, quantum physics is out!) that you'd like the long and the short of, please email us at info@citc.com.au

Scheduling of Courses
Is there a course that you (or one of your employees) would like to attend but you can't see it listed on our course schedule? It may be that we are waiting for enough people to sign onto our Waiting List.
As we require minimum numbers to run our courses we will not schedule a course until we are reasonably sure that we will be able to fill it. This is why our Enrolments Officers, Kylie Wilkinson and Nicole Darlington, maintain waiting lists for many of our courses.
If you would like to put your name on a waiting list please contact our Nicole or Kylie on 8443 6633, alternatively you can email them at kylie@citc.com.au or nicole@citc.com.au
Please remember that putting your name on the wait list is not an automatic booking for the next course. You will be contacted in order of your addition to the list and you are under no obligation to attend the next scheduled course.

Waiting List
From now on in each eZine there will be a list of courses that have got a number of people on its waiting list, but not yet enough to set a course date. This is to give you an idea of what courses are likely to be scheduled soon and to encourage you to put your name on that waiting list, remember unless you are on that list we won't know if you want to do the course!
Here is the list of courses that have had interest in the past months:
- Safety Supervisor - Stage 1
- CV Crane
- Non Slewing Mobile Crane
Please contact Kylie or Nicole if you would like to be put on these (or any other) waiting lists on 8443 6633, alternatively you can email them at kylie@citc.com.au or nicole@citc.com.au
