Changes to the CITB subsidy process

Please read this article carefully if you, or your employees, have a CITB number or if you think that you are eligible for the CITB subsidy.

If you think you, or your employees, are eligible for the CITB subsidy, please be aware that the CITB has changed its procedures.

We now have to apply for  pre-approval for funding before the course commences.

As a result, we have had to change some (small) elements of the booking process:

When you call to make a booking  at the  CITB eligible rate you will need to provide the Enrolments Officer with the following

  •  person's name
  • street address (not PO Box, C/O  etc)
  • CITB ID number
  • Date of Birth
  • ABN of the company that they are employed by.
  1. We will not be able to reduce the cost of a course after it has started.
  2. We will need to know if you are cancelling your position IMMEDIATELY so that we can inform the CITB that the funding will not be required.
  3. All  CITB numbers will need to be applied for  before  making a booking. http://www.citb.org.au/training/registration/registration.asp
  4. The CITB subsidy only applies if the course is completed. This means that you will be liable to pay the full, unsubsidised course cost if you fail to finish the course.

If you have any questions regarding applying for a CITB ID number or regarding  their criteria, please call the CITB on 8172 9500.

Course Pre-requisites and Expected Knowledge

It is important that students and their employers familiarise themselves with the pre-requisites and/or expected knowledge that is required before commencing a course. If you are unsure about what is required, please look at the course's page on our website, i.e. Dogging, Mobile Crane Operation, Asbestos Removal  Supervisor, or call our office 8443 6633.

Some of our courses require the participant to hold another ticket or to have completed training, i.e. Crane and Rigging courses can only be attended by participants who have successfully completed the Perform Dogging course.

All of our courses require participants to have a good understanding of English. Currently, only in the case of Greencard II can a person with English language difficulties arrange to bring their own translator. The CITC does not organise the translator.

On top of being able to speak and understand spoken English, the following courses also require all participants to have at least basic literacy and good numeracy skills;  Scaffolding, Rigging  All Cranes, Elevated Work Platform, Yellowcard, Forklift  and all Hoist courses.

Please see the article entitled 'Dogging' for all pre-requisites etc for the Dogging course.

If you are unsure of the course requirements and prerequisites, please contact our office (8443 6633 or info@citc.com.au) to clarify.

Dogging

The Perform Dogging course is one of our most popular - and most challenging - courses. A dogman (AKA Dogger, Crane Chaser)  assists crane operators in safely lifting their loads.  They are responsible for the selection of appropriate lifting gear for each load and  for  ensuring that the load is safely secured to the crane hook. They  are constantly communicating with the crane operator via visual and aural signals  to ensure that the load is handled safely. The course is also a  prerequisite for  other courses such as the Basic Rigging, Mobile Crane, Tractor Crane and CV Crane courses.

As a result, this course is theory intensive (60-65%), with a heavy emphasis on maths. A good working knowledge of math is required to successfully complete this course. If you think you may have difficulties, please tell one of our Enrolments Officers when you book in to the course. They will be able to pass you on to a trainer who will be able to explain it to you and possibly put you in touch with some literature that could help.

It is important when deciding to send an employee on to a Perform Dogging course that the  employer takes  in to account the person's maths ability. If a person is  unable to complete the course due to their inability to complete the theory component they  (or their employer) may have to pay for the course at the full unsubsidised  price.

If you have any concerns or questions, please call our office on 8443 6633.

Who do you speak to about.......

We know that everyone likes to speak with Harry, but there are some areas where he is not the best person to talk to.

If you would like information regarding our student policies, standards and AQTF compliance, the person to speak with is Jacqui Verrall. You can either call our office and ask to speak with her on (08) 8443 6633, or email her at jackie@citc.com.au.
