Brilliant
Adelaide
Brilliant Adelaide's website
has been launched and
serves as an excellent reminder of all of the big events in Adelaide for 2007. The first half of the year in Adelaide
is always crammed full with fantastic international events to kickstart the year. Starting in mid-January with the Jacob's Creek Tour Downunder, one of the world's premier cycling events, followed by the Cricket, Clipsal 500, WOMADelaide music festival, The Adelaide Fringe and the 2007 World Police and Fire Games all before the Easter Racing Carnival, there is no excuse to stay at home and not get out into the sunshine!
All of these events need people to set up bleachers, tents, scaffolding,
stages and
temporary headquarters for the events. At the CITC we notice a significant increase in the number of people who attend Dogging, EWP, Rigging, Crane and Scaffolding courses in the early part of the year who go onto help bring these exciting events to the city. We have scheduled many of these courses already and many more will be scheduled as soon as we have a clearer estimate of how many participants will want to attend these courses. Please call our Enrolment's Officers, Nicole and Jennie, (08) 8443 6633 to make a booking or to enquire about unscheduled courses.
There is something on
for every age and interest group, so get out there and see all that you can of Brilliant Adelaide!

Non-English Speaking Participants
Just a reminder to all employers and training coordinators to be mindful when booking people who do not speak English onto CITC courses.
- It is a course requirement on most of our courses that the participants can read and write English.
- Greencard II does not currently require participants to be able to read and write in English, but it does require the participant to have fully understood the course in its entirety.
It is anticipated that in the future Greencard II participants will need to
complete a written exam. We will notify our clients via this eZine
if this changes.
- A person who does not speak English must bring a professionally qualified interpreter with them to the Greencard II course, but they must inform the CITC prior to training that they plan on doing this.
- For professional interpreting assistance we recommend The Interpreting and Translating Centre, call them on (08) 8226 1990
or visit their website http://www.translate.sa.gov.au/
SafeWork SA has put together a document with recommendations and a checklist for inducting new employees from non-English speaking backgrounds to meet employers' obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety legislation. It is available here
in .pdf format.
We are currently in the process of producing information sheets with translations in several languages to help people understand the course requirements and policies.
